This page explains how we create calculator copy on healthcalculators.co.uk. It is written for visitors, not as a claim of clinical accreditation.
What our calculators are for
Tools on this site give general estimates and explanations in UK-friendly units. They are not a diagnosis, treatment plan, prescription or emergency service.
How we classify tools
- Fun / lifestyle: lighter tools with clear limits.
- Fitness: training and performance estimates with injury common sense.
- General health: everyday measures such as BMI or calories, with NHS or GOV.UK links where useful.
- Sensitive health: pregnancy, cycles and alcohol. Calmer tone and stronger warnings.
- Clinical guidance: lab-style explainers. Neutral language, no treatment changes from the page.
Review
Each calculator page shows a reviewed date. We revisit copy when NHS or GOV.UK guidance changes, or when someone reports an error. We do not invent named clinicians. If a page later gains an independent clinical review, we will say so clearly.
Tone
Plain British English. Professional but relatable. No scare tactics, no βsafe to driveβ style guarantees, and no gamifying unhealthy goals.
Privacy
Calculator inputs are processed in your browser unless our privacy policy says otherwise.
