Every day adds up. If you have a drink, the days you have already had still count; you can simply start again.
If you drink heavily every day, stopping suddenly can be dangerous: talk to your GP before you stop. Worried about your drinking, or someone else's? Your GP can help, and Drinkaware and Drinkline (0300 123 1110, free and confidential) are there too. Call 999 if someone cannot be woken, is breathing slowly or is fitting after drinking.
The working
45 days, after 12 units and £25 a week
45 days is 6.4 weeks. At 12 units a week that is 77 units not drunk, and at £25 a week about £161 kept. At 7 kcal per gram and 8 g per unit, the alcohol alone was worth about 4,300 kcal. Next milestone: 50 days, 5 days away.

Questions
Common questions
How do I count an alcohol free streak?
Put in your first alcohol free day. The count is the number of full days since then, so on that first day it shows 0 and the next morning it shows 1.
Is it safe to stop drinking suddenly?
For most people, yes. But if you drink heavily every day, stopping suddenly can cause dangerous withdrawal, so talk to your GP first.
How many calories are in a unit of alcohol?
A unit is 8 g of alcohol and alcohol has 7 kcal per gram, so about 56 kcal before any sugar or mixers.
What if I only want to cut down?
That is a great goal too. The weekly units diary helps you see where to trim.
